If you love the look of lash extensions but not necessarily the appointments, infills and commitment that come with them, you've probably come across DIY cluster lashes.
At first glance, the result can look surprisingly similar. You wake up with your lashes already done, mascara becomes optional and somehow you look a little more put together even before your first coffee.
But cluster lashes and professional lash extensions are actually two very different ways of getting there.
So, what's the difference — and which one makes more sense for you?
Let's talk lashes.
First things first: what are cluster lashes?
Cluster lashes are small sections of false lashes that you apply yourself rather than having a lash technician attach individual extensions.
With Muusa Lashikad, the clusters are applied underneath your natural lashes to create a seamless lash-extension-inspired look.
Instead of one fixed style, you can combine different lengths and decide where each cluster goes.
That means you're essentially creating your own lash map.
Want something soft and natural for everyday life? Keep it subtle.
Going away for the weekend and suddenly feeling a little extra?
Add some length.
That freedom is probably our favourite thing about Lashikad.
And what are traditional lash extensions?
Professional lash extensions are applied by a trained lash technician in a salon.
Individual extensions — or handmade/pre-made fans depending on the technique — are attached to your natural lashes using professional lash adhesive.
The appointment usually takes considerably longer than applying DIY clusters at home, but the result is designed to stay in place for weeks while your natural lashes go through their normal growth cycle.
Because your natural lashes continuously shed and regrow, extensions gradually become less full over time.
That's why regular infill appointments are usually needed to maintain the look.
The biggest difference? Freedom.
This is where the two experiences start to feel very different.
With salon extensions, you choose your lash style and then wear that look until the extensions naturally shed or are professionally removed.
With cluster lashes, you can change your mind.
And we happen to like changing our minds.
One week you might want barely-there lashes.
The next week?
Full glam.
You can remove your Lashikad, create a completely different lash map and start again whenever it suits you.
There's no waiting for your next appointment.
How long do they last?
This is one of the biggest differences between the two.
Muusa Lashikad are designed for approximately 5–7 days of wear when applied correctly and cared for properly.
Professional lash extensions can remain for several weeks, although their appearance gradually changes as natural lashes shed. Regular infills are generally needed if you want to keep them looking consistently full.
So if your priority is keeping the same lash look for several weeks, salon extensions offer longer continuous wear.
If you like changing your lashes more frequently, cluster lashes give you considerably more flexibility.
What about application time?
This one surprised us when we first fell in love with DIY lashes.
A professional lash-extension appointment can easily become a whole event in your calendar.
You travel there.
You lie down.
You wait.
You travel home.
There is something lovely about having someone else do your lashes — we're definitely not pretending otherwise — but sometimes you simply don't have two hours to give away.
Once you get used to applying Lashikad, a complete set can take around 10 minutes at home.
No appointment.
No commute.
No lying still while desperately trying not to open your eyes because you suddenly remembered something you need to do. 😅
Just you, your mirror and your lashes.
Do cluster lashes look like professional extensions?
They can create a very similar effect, but they aren't exactly the same thing.
Professional extensions allow a trained lash artist to work very precisely with your natural lashes and design a set specifically for your eye shape.
DIY cluster lashes work in sections.
The advantage is that those sections make application much easier to do yourself while still allowing you to customise the final look.
And because Muusa Lashikad sit underneath the natural lashes, the lash band is designed to blend into the lash line rather than sitting visibly above it like a traditional strip lash.
The goal isn't to pretend that DIY lashes and professional extensions are identical.
They're not.
They simply offer two different ways to get that effortless lash look.
What about the cost?
This is another reason many women start experimenting with DIY cluster lashes.
Professional extensions aren't a one-time expense.
There's the initial appointment and then regular infills if you want to maintain the look.
Cluster lashes work differently because you buy the lashes and application products and apply them yourself.
Muusa Lashikad can also be reused approximately 3–5 times per individual cluster with proper removal and care, which can make one box go surprisingly far.
So instead of paying for another appointment every few weeks, you're paying for the product and doing the application yourself.
Can you take a break whenever you want?
Yes — and this is a big one for us.
Sometimes you want lashes.
Sometimes you want absolutely nothing on your eyes.
With DIY clusters, that decision is yours.
When you're ready to remove your Lashikad, use Muusa Remover to soften the Bond and gently take the clusters off.
You can leave your natural lashes bare for a few days, apply another set immediately or decide you're going mascara-only for the week.
There isn't a schedule telling you when your lashes need attention.
Are cluster lashes reusable?
Muusa Lashikad are.
With careful removal, cleaning and storage, individual clusters can be reused approximately 3–5 times.
This is also why removal matters.
Don't pull them off just because you're impatient. (Yes, we know it's tempting.)
Let the Remover do its job.
Your natural lashes — and the Lashikad you want to wear again — will thank you.

So… which one should you choose?
It really depends on what you want from your lashes.
If you love the salon experience, want someone else to take care of your lashes and prefer wearing extensions continuously for several weeks, professional lash extensions may suit your routine beautifully.
But if you like doing things on your own terms — changing your style, applying your lashes at home and deciding exactly when you want to wear them — DIY cluster lashes offer a different kind of freedom.
And that's exactly why Muusa Lashikad exist.
We didn't create them because we think women should stop going to lash salons.
We created them because sometimes you want another option.
An option that doesn't require an appointment.
An option you can do at home.
An option that lets you wake up with your lashes already done — and change them again whenever the mood hits.
Because beauty should fit into your life.
Not the other way around.
Your eyes. Your ritual. Your Muusa. 🤍
